Not sure which Mac? Apple menu → About This Mac. “Apple M1” or later means Apple Silicon; anything that says Intel means the other one. A browser cannot tell any of these apart, which is why this page asks instead of guessing.
What the first run does
It downloads its models
Transcription, the language model and voice prints, in parallel, a gigabyte or two in total. The defaults are chosen to handle Chinese and English well; other sizes are one click away in Settings. After that the app needs no network.
It asks for one permission, or two
Microphone, for your voice. Screen Recording only if you want the other side of the call: macOS gates system audio behind it even when no video is captured, and the app reads nothing from the video side. Choose “Microphone only” to skip it. Granting Screen Recording needs a quit and reopen of the app.
It refuses rather than degrades
A denied microphone still opens a healthy-looking stream that delivers silence forever. Recording will not start without the grant. Half a meeting discovered afterwards is worse than one that never began.
Requirements
- macOS 13+, Apple Silicon or Intel. Apple Silicon recommended; the Intel build runs the same app more slowly.
- Disk for the models you choose, a few gigabytes at most.
- The disk images are signed and notarised by Riff Tech, Inc., so the first open is an ordinary one. No right-click → Open.
