Not sure which one? Apple menu → About This Mac. “Apple M1” or later means Apple Silicon; anything that says Intel means the other one. A browser cannot tell the two apart — every Mac reports itself as Intel — which is why this page asks instead of guessing.

Windows and Linux

The same app with its best feature missing: system audio is ScreenCaptureKit and exists on macOS only, so these builds record the microphone. Transcription and the language model run on the CPU rather than the GPU, and the licence is kept in a file rather than a keychain. They are here because a build that exists can be tried.

What the first run does

It downloads about 1.3 GB

Three models in parallel — transcription, the language model and voice prints. They are the smallest in each catalogue on purpose; bigger ones are one click away in Settings. After that the app needs no network at all.

It asks for two permissions

Microphone, for your voice. Screen Recording, because macOS gates system audio behind it even when no video is captured — the app asks for a 2×2 pixel stream and writes nothing from it. macOS needs a restart after that one.

It refuses rather than degrades

A denied microphone still opens a healthy-looking stream that delivers silence forever. Recording will not start without the grant — half a meeting discovered afterwards is worse than one that never began.

Requirements

  • macOS 13+ — Apple Silicon recommended. The only platform with system audio, GPU transcription and a keychain-backed licence.
  • Windows 10+ / glibc 2.35+ Linux — x86_64, microphone only, CPU only.
  • Roughly 3 GB of disk once the default models are downloaded, more if you switch to the larger ones.
  • The Windows installer is unsigned for now: SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” — More info → Run anyway.
